Attracted by the wealthiness of the Amazon, the French invaded the arctic of Brazil, area today is Maranhão; their break was short, from 1613 to 1615, but they adjourned the burghal of São Luís (actually, the French gave the name in accolade to King Louis XIII, which absolutely became a Saint; the Portuguese expelled the French, but kept the name of the city).
